The History of Offset Printing

Offset printing accidentally discovered by an American printer named Ira W. Rubel in 1904. The process involves having an inked image printed onto a rubber cylinder and then transferred (a.k.a., offset), to paper or another substrate. 

This process is closely evolved from lithography, which the Tate Modern describes as “a printing process that uses a flat stone or metal plate on which the image areas are worked using a greasy substance so that the ink will adhere to them by, while the non-image areas are made ink-repellant”.
